What an appointment is like
You arrive shaved. Priscila cleans the area, both of you put on protective eyewear, and she runs a cold gel or contact cooling across the area as she works. A small area like the upper lip takes a few minutes. Full legs take closer to an hour.
Afterwards the skin is pink and you will see small raised bumps around each follicle. That is called perifollicular edema and it is the sign the follicle absorbed the energy. It settles within a day. You can go back to work immediately.
Aftercare
- No sun on the treated area for two weeks either side, and SPF 30 daily on anything exposed
- No hot tubs, saunas or intense workouts for 24 to 48 hours
- No retinol, acids or scrubs on the area for about five days
- Shaving is fine as soon as the redness settles; waxing and plucking are not
- Hairs will appear to grow for one to three weeks afterwards, then shed. That is normal, it is the treated hair working its way out

Who should wait
Laser is postponed during pregnancy, on freshly tanned or sunburned skin, over active infection or cold sores in the area, and while you are taking certain photosensitising medications, including recent isotretinoin. If you have a history of keloid scarring or melasma, say so at the consultation so the plan accounts for it.
